The Travel Foundation is an independent UK charity which helps the travel industry understand, manage and take effective action on sustainable tourism. They initially approached Ralph to look at their corporate website which they believed needed restyling to bring more in line with their current branding. After discussing how they felt about their current CMS and the restrictions it placed upon them we soon realised that a better solution would be to rebuild the site from scratch with a new CMS system under the hood.
There was a problem though. This would mean a larger investment into the website than they had anticipated. But we had a solution.
Each year they were spending a fair amount of their online budget in producing 'Green Business Tool' microsites for the travel industry as part of their mandate to educate and encourage sustainable tourism. Well, why couldn't the new CMS build these, effectively reducing the design and build cost of each new microsite to zero? Unsurprisingly, the Travel Foundation quite liked this idea.

So by building into the site the functionality to generate their own microsites, we saved them money in the long run, as well as helping improve their SEO by housing all the microsites within the main site and providing travel professionals with a single portal to all the Green Business Tools. Another feature we thought was pretty useful was the ability to switch between two styles of home page. A standard home page promoting different parts of the site, and a 'campaign' style home page, which when running when an event or campaign could be switched on so that the page gets stripped done to the bare essentials with a large featured image and message promoting the single issue on the agenda.
After the success of the main Travel Foundation website we also created a sister site to help promote their 'Make Holidays Greener' campaign. This includes flipable top tips postcards, resources and a kids section, all presented in a consumer friendly environment.
